The development of interdisciplinary doctoral studies at the Gdansk University of Technology in modern technologies

Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education under the board has granted the consortium which includes Gdansk University of Technology (GUT) and the The Szewalski Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery, Polish Academy of Sciences (SIFFM PAS), more than fourteen million PLN for the development of the interdisciplinary doctoral program in English.

The consortium comprises the following partners:

Faculty of Chemistry (GUT)
Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics (GUT)
Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics (GUT)
The Szewalski Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery, Polish Academy of Sciences

Priority technologies covered by the project:

  • information technology and bioinformatics
  • biotechnology
  • renewable energy sources and environmental protection
  • nanomaterials and materials of new generation.

    The main objective of the presented project is to overcome the problems of education of the PhD students at GUT and lead to the emergence and development of the interdisciplinary PhD Studies in the quoted areas in the GUT in modern technology, which is compliant with trends at universities in the EU and will provide better educated personnel to work in an innovative economy in the region and across the country.

    Specific objectives of the project, which will be implemented in a period of 6 years of its duration:

  • Emergence of a common platform for interdisciplinary training which renovate and modernize the teaching system of doctoral studies,
  • Development of brand new lectures prepared and conducted in English. There will also be specialized language trainings for staff and students,
  • Implementation of a variety of modern forms of education programme (e.g., summer schools, workshops, "Scientific challenges", internships and study visits, trainings in the area of soft-skills, which are popular in other countries),
  • Introduction of the scholarships for the best students (25-30% of the whole population) in a competition, which will encourage them to undertake doctoral studies and increase their motivation to work.

    Program is devoted to PhD students and all graduate students, who will attend to PhD studies until September 2015. Program is also addressed to scientific and teaching staff of GUT and SIFFM PAS as well as visiting professors from abroad.
